„Dobro došli“ in Ostrava. Celebration of Croatian accession to the EU

Croatia has become the 28th member state of the European Union. The Office of the Government of the Czech Republic through Eurocentre Ostrava and in cooperation with other partners prepared the event „Dobro došli!“ within the music Festival in streets of the City of Ostrava.

The Festival in streets which traditionally offers complementary activities to famous music festival „Colours of Ostrava“ was supplemented by a special euro-stand at this year. The main task of the stand was the promotion of Croatia as a new EU member state. Organizers prepared a remarkable programme on Saturday July 20th. First morning visitors were welcomed by the traditional Croatian coffee accompanied by experts who were ready to discuss about Croatia and EU matters with anyone interested.

Many visitors used the opportunity to take away prepared information materials and brochures on EU matters and Croatia. Next point in the programme was a knowledge quiz about Croatia. For younger visitors there was prepared a table football which simulated a Hajduk Split and Baník Ostrava match and the youngest could put large puzzle of Europe together.

A Croatian singer and actress Nera Stipičević who became the official ambassador of the Croatian accession to the EU was willing to discuss with visitors of the stand too. Many questions were also answered by the staff members Igor Blahušiak and Martin Tichý (Eurocentre Ostrava) and further partners. Questions related mainly to changes in regime on Croatian borders to other EU countries. The stand was visited by approximately six hundred people not only from Ostrava and all the Czech Republic regions, but also by people from abroad.
