Ing. Martin Pecina

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior

Personal information

Martin Pecina was born on 9 July 1968. He is married and has two children.

Education

He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Technical University of Ostrava. He received a CIME and MBA from the Masaryk Institute of Advanced Studies and the Sheffield Business School.

Professional and public activity

During 1992-1996 he worked as sales director for a private company. From 1996 to 1999 he was employed by Hutní projekt Frýdek-Místek, where from 1999 – 2003 he held the position of CEO.

He worked for the civil service from 2003 to 2005 as deputy minister of industry and trade and from 2005 to 2009 as the chairman of the Office for the Protection of Economic Competition.

From 8 May 2009 to 13 July 2010, Martin Pecina was minister of the interior in Jan Fischer’s cabinet.

From 2010 until being named minister of the interior in Jiří Rusnok’s cabinet, he held the position of CEO of Vítkovice Power Engineering.
