Personal details

Ing. Ivan Pilný was born on 6 July 1944 in Prague. He is married, has four children and six grandchildren.

Education

In 1971 he graduated from the Electrical Engineering Faculty of the Czech Technical University with distinction and holds a degree in technical cybernetics.

Professional and public activities

During the period from 1972-1991 he worked in technical and managerial posts in companies dealing with information technologies.  Initially in the Research Institute of Mathematical Machines (Výzkumný ústav matematických strojů) and later in the Cooperative Enterprise of Computer Technology (Družstevní podnik výpočetní techniky).

From 1990-2012 he was engaged in business activities. 

From 1992-1998 he was Managing Director of Microsoft for the Czech and Slovak Republics. 

From 1997-1998 he served as president of SPIS (Association for an Information Society). 

From 2000-2001 he held the post of Chairman of the Board of Český Telecom and from 2001-2002 was Managing Director of the alternative operator, eTel. 

From 2005 to the present day he has acted as President of the Tuesday Business Network. 

From 2013 to the present day he has been a Member of the Czech Parliament and Chair of the Economic Committee.

He also serves as a member of the boards of several charitable organisations and clubs.
