Personal Details

Pavel Blažek was born on 8 April 1969 in Brno.

Education

In 1987, he enrolled at the Law Faculty of Masaryk University, Brno, going on to graduate in 1992. In 1992, he went on a six-week scholarship at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands, where he studied European culture, politics and law. He followed this by studying for his PhD, again at the Law Faculty of Masaryk University, between 1992 and 1995.

Professional experience

Between 1992 and 2002, he worked as an internal teacher at the Department of Administrative Studies, Administrative Law and Financial Law of the Law Faculty at Masaryk University, Brno.

Pavel Blažek became an articled clerk in 1992, before becoming a lawyer in 1996.

Political activity

Pavel Blažek has been a member of the Civic Democratic Party since 1998. Since 2007, he has been the chairman of the ODS's Brno City Regional Association. In 2008, he was appointed as a member of the ODS Executive Council, subsequently becoming a member of the ODS South Moravian Regional Council and ODS deputy chairman in 2010.

Between 1998 and 2010, he was a member of Brno-Centre City Council, and he remains a member of Brno-Centre City Assembly. Since 2002, he has been a member of Brno City Assembly; in this framework he was a member of Brno City Council between 2002 and 2006.

He has been the Justice Minister since 3 July 2012.
