MUDr. Martin Holcát, MBA

Minister of Health

Personal information

Martin Holcát was born on 23 April 1954 in Prague. He is married and has two children: Barbara and Karolína.

Education

In June 1981, he graduated from the Faculty of General Medicine at Charles University in Prague. His specialty is otolaryngology, in which he received Level I and II certification in 1983 and 1988. In 2000 he received certification in Public Health, and in 2004 received an MBA from the Prague International Business School.

Professional and public activity

From 1973 until 1974 he worked as an orderly at FNI. From 1991 until 1996, he worked as a specialized assistant of the otolaryngology clinic at the 1st Faculty of Medicine at Charles University in Prague.

From 1996, he was deputy director for medical treatment at the General Teaching Hospital in Prague, where he became director in 1997. He was temporarily released from this function from March 1999 until March 2000 to be 1st deputy minister of health. Afterwards he was once again director of GTH until 2004.

From 2004 until 2006, he was director of the Transplant Coordination Centre.

From 2004, he has been serving as a specialized assistant to the 1st Faculty of Medicine at the Institute of Medical Law and Social Medicine. Since October 2006, he has been deputy director for preventive medical care at the Motol Teaching Hospital.

Membership in professional associations

He is a member of the Czech Medical Association, the Czech Transplant Association, the Otolaryngology Association, the Czech Biomedical Engineering Association and the Czech Neurophysiological Association.
