Condolences of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka on the passing of Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo

Dear Mrs. Liou Sia,

It was with deep sorrow and grief that I have received the sad news on the decease of your beloved husband Mr Liu Xiaobo.  

Mr Liou Siao-po dedicated his whole life to defending and promoting the values of democracy, human rights and justice. The people of the Czech Republic also share these precious values. That is why we feel a deep grief after the loss of your husband, who embodied the courage and humanity, and who was inspired in his endeavour by the legacy of the former Czech president Václav Havel.

Mrs. Liou Sia, please allow me to extend to you my deepest condolences on my own behalf and on behalf of the people of the Czech Republic.
