Czech government delegation honoured the memory of Holocaust victims in Auschwitz

On 27th January 2015, the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka lit a candle at the Auschwitz concentration camp memorial to honour the memory of Holocaust victims. The Minister of Defence Martin Stropnický, the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Michaela Marksová and the Minister of Culture Daniel Herman accompanied the Prime Minister to the memorial service.

The Czech government delegation was joined by representatives of the Czech Jewish Community, the Speaker of the Riksdag Urban Ahlin and the Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Eero Heinäluoma, who had attended the Holocaust memorial events in Prague organised within the framework of the conference Let My People Live!.

The ceremonial held in Poland today to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz included a message of three survivors, a common prayer, and a symbolic lighting of candles at the victims’ memorial.

The memorial service at Auschwitz was attended by state representatives of more than 50 countries from all over the world.
