On Thursday, 26 April 2018, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš met with Luis Almagro, the Secretary General of the Organization of American States. At their meeting in the Straka Academy, they spoke about the role of OAS on the American continent, coordination of the fight against corruption and support for democracy in the Organization's member states. The prime minister and the secretary general discussed the critical situation in Venezuela and problems with migration on both parts of the American continent, in comparison with the migration crisis in Europe. Luis Almagro is the first representative of SAO who has met with a prime minister of the Czech government.

Other themes of the talks were the developments in Cuba after the new president was elected, the relations of the region and of its economic groupings with the European Union, as well as the role of the United States in the region.  

The Organization of American States is the oldest regional grouping in the world. It associates 35 independent countries including the USA and Canada, and so it represents the largest political, legal and social forum on the hemisphere. Its main activity is promoting democracy, ensuring peace and security of the countries on the American continent, combating terrorism and fostering free trade.
