Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met the Belgian Prime Minister, Charles Michel, in Brussels

On 24 October, on the fringes of the European Council meeting in Brussels, the prime ministers of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka and the Kingdom of Belgium, Charles Michel, met for brief bilateral discussions.

B. Sobotka wished his new Belgium colleague much success in his new position as Prime Minister of Belgium and expressed his interest in mutual cooperation and his satisfaction with the quality of the countries’ bilateral relations. He emphasised the importance of economic cooperation, where an important factor is Belgian investment in the Czech Republic, particularly in the financial sector.

Both prime ministers expressed their satisfaction with the progress made in the European Council meeting. They both also expressed their interest in strengthening the V4+Benelux format. Bohuslav Sobotka conveyed a cordial invitation for his Belgian counterpart to visit the Czech Republic on January 26 and 27, on the occasion of events to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi concentration camp in Auschwitz.
