Prime Minister Sobotka Condoles with German Chancellor Merkel

Your Excellency, Dear Madam Chancellor,

It was with deep sorrow that I have received the news of the demise of former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Mr Helmut Kohl, who led the Federal Republic of Germany through the key period of its modern history on the road to its reunification.

Mr Kohl was one of the greatest leaders of Europe who contributed to the deepening of the European integration in the 1990’s.  He was also an important figure of the Czech-German relations as he significantly contributed to deepening of mutual friendly cooperation by assisting at the birth  of the Czech-German Declaration signed in 1997.

Dear Madam Chancellor, I would like to offer my deepest condolences on behalf of myself
as well as the Government of the Czech Republic.
