The Premier appointed the 1st Deputy Prime Minister Jan Hamáček, the government approved its programme statement

The government of Andrej Babiš met on Wednesday, 27 June 2018, in the Straka Academy for its first meeting.

At the meeting, Premier Babiš appointed Jan Hamáček, Interior Minister entrusted with leading the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to be the 1st Deputy Prime Minister. The Deputy Prime Minister is the Minister of the Environment, Richard Brabec. The government also approved the appointment of the chair of the Legislative Council of the Government, the Government Commissioner for Human Rights and the programme statement of the government.

The government of Andrej Babiš decided that the new chairperson of the Government Legislative Council will be the Minister of Justice, Taťána Malá. The new Government Commissioner for Human Rights is Martina Štěpánková, Deputy Minister managing the Human Rights Section of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. “Her task will be to manage and coordinate the agenda in human rights, rights of minorities, social inclusion and equal opportunities,” said Premier Andrej Babiš.

The government also approved the proposed request of the government for a vote of confidence by the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. According to the Constitution, a new government must ask the Chamber of Deputies for confidence within 30 days of its appointment.

“I am very glad that we have made the first step towards the establishment of what, let’s hope, will be a stable government. The second step awaits us on 11 July. I have already asked the lower house to convene a meeting for the vote of confidence,” said the Prime Minister.

The government also approved a proposal of the Programme Statement of the Government, which will be delivered to the Chamber of Deputies too. The whole text of the Programme Statement of the Government is available in Czech at /cz/jednani-vlady/programove-prohlaseni-vlady-165960/.

The cabinet also approved a change of the head of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. Instead of the removed Radek Augustin, the management of the Office of the Government has been temporarily entrusted to Tünde Barthová with effect from 28 June until a new head of the Office is appointed. The government appointed a new spokesperson of the government, Petra Doležalová.
