The prime minister congratulated Věřa Jourová on her appointment as Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality

Dear Ms. Jourová,

I should like to congratulate you on your appointment as Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality. I am convinced that the portfolio entrusted to you within the framework of the European Commission is one of the important areas underpinning the future growth, development and prosperity of both the individual Member States and the EU as a whole.

I am delighted that the Czech government’s nomination to the European Commission was successful. I feel that your erudition, experience and commitment will certainly contribute to the creation of a strong European Commission as an institution on which the destinies of the citizens of the Member States depend, and which will ensure their safety and sense of belonging to a common European project. At the same time I would be very happy if we could find an opportunity, while discharging our public functions, to meet and discuss together the current agenda of the European Union and its future development, which will certainly require our concerted efforts to overcome all the challenges we face.
