On 27 September Prime Minister Andrej Babiš ended his visit to the United States. He and his wife Monika visited a memorial and museum dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001. He also met with the Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and had talks with Syria’s Foreign Minister.

The Prime Minister, his wife Monika and ministers Karel Havlíček and Richard Brabec laid flowers at the National September 11 Memorial in honour of two victims of Czech origin. The Czech delegation then visited the adjacent museum. “It’s a very moving place. The winning design was by an architect who witnessed the entire catastrophe from a nearby building. We need to remember what happened here. That’s why the United Nations Security Council should help in the international fight against terrorism,” the Prime Minister said.

Andrej Babiš also met with James Jeffrey, the United States Special Representative for Syria Engagement and Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. The Prime Minister then had talks with Syria’s Foreign Minister, Walid Muallem. He talked to both men about the current situation in Syria and stressed the importance of listening to both sides.

The Prime Minister ended his five-date visit to the USA today. During the visit Andrej Babiš spoke at the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he described the Czech Republic’s journey from a totalitarian state to a democratic and economically successful country. He highlighted the fact that the Czech Republic is one of the safest countries in the world, with one of the most stable economies. Andrej Babiš also had an address at the SDG Summit, where he talked about sustainable development and pointed out that the Czech Republic is in seventh place for meeting the Agenda 2030 goals.

During bilateral talks the Prime Minister met the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with whom he primarily discussed migration. He also met the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Prime Minister and ministers Karel Havlíček and Richard Brabec visited the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and met with representatives of American investors from ACEBA and potential investors from the AIM International Business Council. He and his wife Monika also attended a reception hosted by the President of the USA, Donald Trump.
