The second day in Japan: the PM meets Crown Prince Naruhito and talks with Czech and Japanese businesspeople about new investments

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka continues his official visit to Japan. He opened a Czech-Japanese business and investment forum in Tokyo this morning, lectured at Josai University, and met Crown Prince Naruhito and Tadamori Oshima, President of the Parliament's Lower Chamber. At the end of the day, Prime Minister Sobotka spoke with the management of Asahi Breweries and other leading companies.

The business and investment forum, which was attended by the Prime Minister as well as Minister of Industry and Trade, Jiří Havlíček, and CzechInvest CEO, Karel Kučera, was aimed at seeking opportunities to strengthen mutual trade and investment between the two countries. The forum was attended by both Czech and Japanese businesspeople, who discussed specific areas of possible cooperation.

Prime Minister Sobotka visited Josai University in the morning. There, he was awarded an honorary doctorate. In Togo Palace, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met Japanese Crown Prince, Naruhito. They talked about the level of bilateral political, economic, interpersonal and cultural Czech-Japanese relations. Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka appreciated that both countries are paying great attention to the development of mutual ties, which is also reflected in the economic sphere.

Tadamori Oshima, President of the Lower Chamber of Parliament, talked with Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka primarily about economic cooperation, foreign policy issues, security cooperation and the Free Trade Agreement between the European Union and Japan.

In the afternoon, the Czech prime minister visited Asahi Breweries, where he talked with the company's management about the plans for the development of Pilsner Urquell, which became the company's property in the spring of 2017. Besides Prazdroj, Asahi owns breweries in numerous other European countries. One of the topics that the Prime Minister discussed with the company management was possible further cooperation in the domain of the food industry.

In the evening, Prime Minister Sobotka attended a gala reception at the Czech embassy in Japan. The meeting was also attended by representatives of major Japanese companies investing in the Czech Republic, Czech compatriots and Czech students currently studying in Japan.

The prime minister's visit to Japan continues. Tomorrow he will meet the mayor of Kyoto and hold talks with Shimadzu, the leader in technological innovations.
