Extraordinary press briefing of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic held on 1st November, 2007

Jana Bartošová, spokesperson of the Office of the Government: Dear ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the extraordinary press briefing of the Prime Minister, Mr. Mirek Topolánek, whom I welcome, as well. I welcome here the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Jiří Čunek and the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Martin Bursík. I ask the Prime Minister for the introductory speech.
Mirek Topolánek, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic: In the introduction I will say just briefly that we had a meeting of chairmen of coalition parties to solve the situation of the coalition. We have reached a solution and it would be realized next Wednesday, on the occasion of the meeting of the government, as we are used to do it in case of such issues. Jiří Čunek has the floor now.
Jiří Čunek, 1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development: Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen, I would like to announce that based on the information that the Attorney General wants to continue in my case, which was to be finished, but she decided because of certain reasons to continue in it. I decided to put a stop to all those discussions about my undue influence in spite of the fact that I have never spoken to Renáta Vesecká in my life, let alone a TV debate. I decided to resign my post of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for regional Development, so that the investigation would be really independent. I take this decision not only because of the first point or the first step, but I also want the coalition to continue, not to be doubted and to be able to continue in its work.
Jana Bartošová, spokesperson of the Office of the Government: I thank Mr. Čunek and now the Deputy Prime Minister Martin Bursík has the floor.
Martin Bursík, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment: Good afternoon, thank you. I think it would be good to wish, on behalf of our coalition partners, Jiří Čunek success both in his private life and in his function of the Chairman of the KDU-ČSL.
Mirek Topolánek, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic: In the very conclusion I would like to announce that on Wednesday I will also ask the President to commission Martin Bursík, the Chairman of the Green Party, to be head of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Physical Training, as it has been shown that seeking a new minister is much more complicated and it requires more time. We need to stabilize the ministry and I need a minister to be there who would implement delayed decisions; all those measures, which concern the Ministry for Regional Development, will be solved on Wednesday at the meeting of the government. I wish you nice day and good-bye.
