Czech Prime Minister Meeting Legendary Traveller

Today, on Thursday, June 28, 2007, Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek of the Czech Republic met the legendary Czech traveller Miroslav Zikmund as part of the Premier’s current tour of the Zlín Region.

They jointly visited an exhibition entitled “Across Five Continents with Zikmund and Hanzelka“. This display presents a wealth of written documents, photographs and souvenirs from Zikmund and Hanzelka´s travels. The organizers of the exhibition selected items from some 120,000 photos. Miroslav Zikmund then pointed to one of them - showing him in a nice shirt - and told the Premier: “This is the kind of dandy I was in Mexico“. The Prime Minister told the famous traveler that as a boy he himself had suffered from a great “abstinence syndrome“ due to the virtual impossibility to travel abroad, which he made up for only after 1989. “As boys we travelled at least in our thoughts“, said the Premier, and added that meeting Miroslav Zikmund was his childhood dream come true.
