National Security Council

The National Security Council is a standing body of the Government responsible for coordinating the Czech Republic’s security issues and preparing draft measures to ensure the country’s security.

The National Security Council was set up under Article 9 of Constitutional Act No 110/1998 on the security of the Czech Republic. Its composition and activities are laid down under Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic No 544 of 9 July 2014, Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic No 360 of 10 May 2017, Government Resolution No 247 of 18 April 2018, Government Resolution No 457 of 10 July 2018, Government Resolution No 692 of 24 October 2018 and Government Resolution No 1187 of 22 December 2021.

In accordance with Article 9 of Constitutional Act No 110/1998 on the security of the Czech Republic:

1. The National Security Council comprises the Prime Minister and other members of the Government in accordance with a Government decision.

2. The National Security Council, within the scope of authorization set by the Government, prepares draft measures for the Government concerning the safeguarding of the Czech Republic’s security.

3. The President of the Republic is entitled to attend meetings of the National Security Council, demand reports from the National Security Council and its members and to discuss issues with the National Security Council or its members which fall within their remit.
