Mgr. Tomáš Chalupa

Minister of the Environment

Personal Details:

Born 3 July 1974 in Prague 6, where he lives to this day; married.

Education:

Studied from 1993 to 1995 at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University in Prague, in the Journalism and Mass Communications Department. At the same time he studied political science and history at the Philosophy Faculty of Charles University in Prague until 1996. From 1994 to 2002 he studied law at the Law Faculty at Charles University in Prague.

Professional and Public Activity:

He has held various positions at the daily newspapers Telegraf and Večerník Praha. In 1997 and 1998 he served as the government's press spokesman. He was elected deputy mayor for finance, investment and security for the Prague 6 district from 1998 to 2002, and has been mayor of Prague 6 since 2002. From 2006 he has been a member of the Prague City Assembly, chairman of its foreign affairs committee and a member of its finance committee. He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2010.

He has been a member of the Civic Democratic Party since 1992.

Tomáš Chalupa has been the Minister of the Environment since 17 January 2011.
