Projev místopředsedy vlády P. Bělobrádka na předávání vědeckých cen 2017 na Francouzském velvyslanectví

Your Excellency, ladies and gentlemen, dear guests,
It is a pleasure for me to be here among you. Science is our future. And the future lies in the young generation. So hardly anyone embodies the hope of a successful future better than young scientists.

I appreciate our French friends supporting Czech scientific talent. France is a country that has shown the world the importance of public support for science, research and innovation.

Investing in science and education is the best investment of all. Investing in human potential is more rewarding than investing in iron or concrete. Our people, their thoughts and ideas are the greatest resource we have.

Science and innovation are the only real forces that drive the world forward. And if we join forces, we will achieve even more. I am pleased that the Czech Republic enjoys far-reaching, fruitful scientific cooperation with France.
I will mention at least a few figures from Horizon 2020:
In all, 553 French teams are working with 275 Czech teams on 231 projects. And in more than half of projects with Czech involvement, at least one French partner features in the consortium.

While these are already decent figures, we want to make them even better. For us, participation in European projects is crucial. Moreover, Horizon 2020 cooperation easily eclipses direct bilateral cooperation.

To close, I would like to thank our French hosts once again and wish the award-winning young scientists plenty more success.

The human brain is the only truly inexhaustible natural resource. As the father of modern chemistry, Antoine Lavoisier, said: “Nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed.” Thank you for your attention and I wish you good luck!
