Anthology of European studies texts was introduced in Brno

The presentation of a new anthology of texts on post-war cooperation in Europe, many of which eventually became classical, took place in the afternoon of May 15th in a completely full hall of the Faculty of Social Studies of the Masaryk University in Brno. Audience formed primarily by students had the opportunity to get acquainted with criteria of texts selection and respective form of a successful book of the CDK publishing house in Brno and Office of the Government of the Czech Republic.

Jiří Georgiev, Deputy Director General of the Section for European Affairs of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic, Markéta Pitrova and Zdeněk Sychra, lecturers from the Masaryk University, and Ondřej Krutílek from the Centre for the Study of Democracy and Culture (CDK) held their presentations. The anthology will surely be a welcomed tool for students of numerous fields of social sciences. In the “Theoretical reflection“ part, texts by authors such as Joseph Weiler, Simon Hix and Udo Di Fabio are contained. The “Historic experience“ then primarily in the contributions by Philippe Nemo and Pierre Manent elucidates the implications of the Western civilization context and the continuing relevance of the national political identity in integrated Europe. Finally, the third part called “Political vision“ collects speeches of Jacques Delors, Roman Herzog, Joschka Fischer, Václav Havel, Václav Klaus and Radoslaw Sikorski.

The event took place within the frameworks the National Forum on the Future of the EU and the European Year of Citizens 2013.
