Third expert round table was dedicated to the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union

On May 30th, a discussion took place at the Ombudsman′s Office in Brno within the National Forum on the Future of the EU. The round table was dedicated to the issue of the application practice of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU. After the welcome speech held by the Czech Ombudsman Mr Pavel Varvařovský and the State Secretary for European Affairs Mr Vojtěch Belling, a debate started with representatives of the Czech academic sphere and judicial community actively participating. The Constitutional Court Judge Jan Filip and the Supreme Administrative Court Judge Jan M. Passer cited concrete decisions that involve defining of scope between national catalogues of human rights and the EU Charter. Various interesting points relating to the current case of the European Court of Justice „Akerberg Fransson“ were brought into the discussion by Miroslav Přidal from the Ombudsman′s Office together with the Czech Government Agent before the European Court of Justice Martin Smolek and Lenka Pítrová, Director of Strategies and Institutional Department of the Office of the Government.
