Helena Landšádlová

Minister of Science, Research and Innovation

Helena Langšádlová was born on 14 October 1963 in Prague. She now lives in Černošice. She studied water management construction at the Secondary Industrial School of Civil Engineering. In 2004 to 2008 she did a bachelor’s degree in political science at the University of Political and Social Sciences. In 2010 she graduated with a master’s degree in political science and politics in international relations from the University of International and Public Relations.

From 1984 to 1986 she worked as a construction technician at the Department of Construction and Spatial Planning of Praha-západ; she spent the time between 1986 and 1990 on maternity leave. She then ran a guest house from 1990 to 1998. From 1998 to 2006 she was the mayor of the town of Černošice, and served as the town’s deputy mayor from 2006 to 2010. From 2000 to 2008 and from 2012 to 2013 she was a member of the Central Bohemian regional assembly. From 2004 to 2010 she was a member of the European Committee of the Regions.

In 2010 she was elected a member of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. From 2010 to 2013 she served as vice-chair of the Budget Committee, a member of the Committee on Public Administration and Regional Development, the chair of the Permanent Commission on Family Issues and Equal Opportunities and the chair of the Subcommittee on Banking, Insurance and Financial Markets.

From 2013 to 2017 she was the vice-chair of the Committee on European Affairs and from 2014 was a member of the Subcommittee on European Funds and Cross-Border Cooperation. In 2014 she became a member of the Czech Republic – Israel and the Czech Republic – United States Inter-Parliamentary Group. In 2015 she was elected chair of the Subcommittee on Migration and Asylum Policy. She was also a member of the Committee on Petitions from 2016.

From 2017 to 2021 she was a member of the Economic Committee and the Committee on European Affairs. In 2018 she became chair of the Subcommittee on Migration and Asylum Policy.

She is married and has two grown-up sons. She speaks English and Russian. Her interests include history and culture.
