Pavel Bělobrádek Opens the International Conference "European Space Solutions 2014"

Deputy Prime Minister for Science, Research, and Innovation Pavel Bělobrádek attended on 11 June 2014 the opening of the international conference European Space Solutions 2014 held at the Prague Congress Center.

According to him, space-related activities are of key importance for promoting industrial development and international competitiveness, and his ministry pays close attention to this area. "Today's modern world, including the Czech Republic, approaches space exploration as a strategic discipline with great economic, social, political, and security potential," explained Bělobrádek. Numerous space-based technologies and applications are a regular part of everyday life; they are used in such areas as aviation, communications, and the automotive industry.

The Czech Republic has been involved in space programs since the 1960s, and joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in 2008. The agency is the main partner in the development of Czech space activities, an area coordinated by the Ministry of Transport. "I am happy to say that the Czech space industry has achieved considerable success, not only on the institutional market, but on the purely commercial market as well," reported the deputy prime minister. Apart from Czech organizations that take part in processing and exploiting satellite data, Bělobrádek pointed out the work of the GSA, a Prague-based agency that oversees European satellite navigation programs.
