Prime Minister Sobotka comments on his meeting with the Czech President about Euro

I consider our meeting with the President today on the topic of Euro a very useful one. We should debate the pros and cons of adopting the Euro more; the current public debate on this topic is weak, not professional enough and exceedingly polarised between the backers and opponents of European integration as such. These debates should also include potential realistic dates for adoption of the common currency. Our government should, in line with the concluded coalition agreement, begin gradually preparing the country for the entry into Eurozone, both in economic area and in terms of public budgets and the necessary legislation. I am personally convinced that the strategic benefits of adopting the Euro outweigh potential negatives; these benefits include stability, employment and competitiveness of the Czech Republic.

Bohuslav Sobotka, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic
