European Vision. European Responsibility.

On 9 June 2017, Prague will host a unique high-level conference on European security and defence under the auspices of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. The Defence and Security Conference Prague – held at the Žofín Palace – will be opened by the Prime Minister and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.

Strong European security and defence cooperation is essential for our future. There needs to be a thorough discussion on the matter on all levels possible. Pursuing this, the European Council in June will provide a strategic guidance to the strengthening of the Common Security and Defence Policy and the European Commission has included the security and defence issue in its White Paper on the Future of Europe. Moreover, the necessary strengthening of the EU-NATO strategic partnership has been launched at the NATO Warsaw Summit 2016.

The aim of the Defence and Security Conference Prague is to highlight all these important aspects of the ongoing debates and identify possible joint steps, which will be necessary to undertake at the European level.

The programme of the event includes topics as follows: strengthening security and defence cooperation, EU-NATO partnership and complementarity, and defence research and military capability development, including the European Defence Action Plan. In order to cover this wide range of issues, the conference will be divided into two panels.

The Prague conference will bring together high-level speakers from the EU Member States, EU institutions, NATO and European defence industry and will be attended by senior representatives of the EU Member States, think-tanks and academia, diplomatic corps and last, but not least, representatives of the private sector.
