Eurocentre Prague organized a seminar about safe online shopping

The second seminar organized by Eurocentre Prague in November took place in the Information Centre of the Government on the 22nd November 2012. It was titled "Christmas shopping on the Internet without fear" and was concerned with consumer protection legislation in Czech and European law.

The lecture was given by Mr. Tomáš Večl, lawyer and Director of the European Consumer Centre for the Czech Republic, whose mission is to provide Czech consumers with professional legal consultations in case of problems with cross-border commercial transactions. The European consumer protection system is based on the principle of minimum harmonization, which ensures a certain minimum standard of protection for consumers from all member states, while national legislation may define even stricter conditions and protect consumers more. The relevant directives are transposed in the Czech Republic directly to the Civil Code. The lecture focused particularly on entering into distance contracts on-line, mandatory information provided by the supplier and conditions of withdrawal from a contract. Participants also learned how to recognize a good e–shop – to follow different sources of information including trust marks given by consumers and entrepreneurs. In the discussion appeared questions on the practice of substantive and procedural aspects of the choice of applicable law and payment methods on-line, as well as various experience of visitors of the seminar with fraudulent sales practices.
