Roundtable on the implementation of the National Reform Program 2019

The Office of the Government organized on 31 October 2019 its annual roundtable on the implementation of the National Reform Program 2019.

The event was initiatied with two presentations with the first being on the Structural Reform Support Program (SRSP). This program provides (since its inception in 2017) direct assistance to national administrations of member states with the preparation and implementation of reform initiatives. The second presentation covered the government´s fulfilment of national targets within the Europe 2020 strategy by implementation of the National Reform Program 2019. This index is reevaluated on a yearly basis and serves as an orientational progress tracker as part of the European Semester process. The Czech Republic has successfuly achieved the majority of its set targets.

The thematic round tables are attended by representatives from the national civil service, trade unions, business and economic interest groups as much as delegates from communal and regional entities, the European Commission and other institutions. Discussions revolve around the state and efficiency of specific reform measures for the upcoming months. 

Next followed a thourough debate on each topical chapters of the Report on the Implementation of National Reform Program 2019. The speakers praised the Czech Republic´s strong economic performance and especially emphasized record-breaking low unemployment figures. The discussions at the round table were especially lively thanks to the distinct takes of  bussiness associations and trade unions on certain topics like the proposed flat tax for enterpreneurs, the funding of healthcare or the employment of foreigners in the Czech Republic.

After the Office of the Government incorporates written comments and observations provided by ministries and involved stakeholders, the complete report will then be presented to the cabinet for approval in November. Following the government´s assent, the report will then be sent to the European Commission, which will use it in the next european semester cycle.
