Outgoing premier Jiří Rusnok handed over the office of the prime minister to his successor Bohuslav Sobotka on Wednesday 29 January 2014. Rusnok received the new premier and his Cabinet ministers in the garden of the Office of the Government.

During a private meeting, Rusnok handed Sobotka keys to the crown jewels. "We spoke about some items on the agenda in respect of which continuity needs to be maintained and which the new prime minister should be aware of and pay attention to," said Rusnok at a press conference held after the ceremony, wishing his successor in the prime minister's office an abundance of patience and wisdom in making decisions.

"I want to thank Jiří Rusnok for assuming the responsibility this demanding position carries, as his Cabinet came into office at a time when our country was facing instability. I am confident that we will be able to build on a number of the achievements the Rusnok Cabinet has accomplished," said Sobotka in praising work done by the outgoing Cabinet.
