Comments by Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka on the election of a new President of the European Council

I welcome the fact that the Czech Republic’s strategy has proved successful. The candidate we proposed and supported was elected. From the start of negotiations we have insisted that a representative from “New Europe” should take up one of the top positions. This has now come about with the approval of Donald Tusk as President of the European Council. This major success also attests to the cooperation and solidarity of the Visegrad countries and confirms the weight of the V4 as a European actor.
