Jan Fischer´s Talks with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia

Both Prime Ministers signed an agreement on cooperation in combating crime

Czech Prime Minister, Jan Fischer, met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Nikola Gruevski. Their talks focused on the current status of the mutual relations and on bilateral topics and cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, education and healthcare. The issues of the expansion of the European Union were also on the agenda.

Following the talks Prime Minister Fischer said the support to the incorporation of the Western Balkan countries within the European structures was a long-term priority of the Czech foreign policy. According to Jan Fischer the talks marked a considerable shift in the relations between the two countries. He named a number of areas where a closer cooperation will be beneficial for both states.

Similarly to Jan Fischer Nikola Gruevski described the talks as beneficial and he expressed thanks to the Czech Republic for its continual support to Macedonia´s accession to NATO and the European Union.

After the talks both Prime Ministers signed the Agreement on Cooperation in Combating Crime between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia.

Tomorrow Jan Fischer and Nikola Gruevski will participate in the Czech - Macedonian Economic Forum with their opening speeches. Signing of the Agreement on Economic and Industrial Cooperation between the Government of the Czech Republic and the Government of the Republic of Macedonia will be part of the forum´s agenda.
