Prime Minister Andrej Babiš met on Friday, 8 June 2018, with European Union Commissioner for internal market, industry, entrepreneurship and SMEs Elżbieta Bieńkowska. In the Straka Academy, they discussed the sectoral proposals of the next European budget that concern the European space programme and internal market, and the European defence industry.

One of the themes was the future of the EU space programme and the GSA that is established in Prague. Premier Andrej Babiš emphasised that the government has a great interest in supporting the agency and that a government agent has been appointed for relations with the agency. The functioning of the agency is important also for ensuring security. Therefore, according to him, its role should be expanded by transferring further competencies from the European Commission and it should receive more funding and personnel. In the prime minister's opinion, the EU space programme is a valuable project that has a high added value.

Premier Babiš spoke with EU Commissioner Bieńkowska also about the strategy of EU industrial policy and the single market. The Commissioner presented to the Czech premier the yesterday published proposal of the future budget that is intended to further integrate the internal market.

The internal market, according to the prime minister, represents the most significant benefit of European integration. He also said that it was necessary to remove all barriers that Czech companies continue to face. Concerning the industrial policy, he emphasised the necessity to ensure a stable, predictable and clear regulatory environment.
