Premier Bohuslav Sobotka met with the President of the Senate of Chile, Andrés Zaldívar Larraín

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met on 5 December 2017 in the House of Deputies of the Czech Parliament with the President of the Senate of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile, Zaldívar Larraín. They spoke mainly about economic cooperation between the two countries, climate protection, cooperation of the European Union with Chile and the current foreign policy issues concerning Latin America.

The Czech Republic and Chile are connected by quality economic contacts. The key theme of the discussion was the prospect of future strengthening of the cooperation in transport infrastructure, energy and the mining or food industries. The meeting also focused on the Czech-Chilean cooperation in defence, forestry and water management. The President of the Senate of Chile thanked the premier for financial assistance that the Czech government provided to his country after the fires and floods that struck Chile in the first half of this year. The amount of CZK 3 million was used for reforestation of the burnt forests in the Chilean region of Maule.

The President of the Senate of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile, Andrés Zaldívar Larraín, arrived in the Czech Republic upon the invitation of the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic, Milan Štěch.
