Premier Fischer: There Is No Need for Europe to be Nervous

Czech Prime Minister Jan Fischer today had a videoconference with Brussels.

Using an audio link, the Premier talked with President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, Prime Minister John Fredrik Reinfeldt of the Kingdom of Sweden, and Chairman of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek. The topic of their talks was the ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.

Premier Jan Fischer has then told a press conference that the Government of the Czech Republic has always supported completion of the ratification process of the Lisbon Treaty. It views ratification as the conclusion of a procedure that will “make it possible to build a stable institutional world within the European Union“.

“There is no need for Europe to be nervous. In the Czech Republic, there is no problem as to whether or not, this is only a problem when,“ added the Czech Prime Minister.

The Premier has also assured the public that the Government of the Czech Republic stands up for the process of adopting the Lisbon Treaty to be completed at the end of this year.
