On Tuesday, 30 October 2018, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš visited Slovakia, where he attended the Slovakian celebrations commemorating the 100th anniversary of the foundation of independent Czechoslovakia.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš laid a wreath under the commemorative plaque on the building where Martin Declaration was signed 100 years ago. By the declaration, Slovakia agreed with the creation of a common state.

After that, Andrej Babiš attended the ceremony to celebrate 100th anniversary of the foundation of Czechoslovakia in Martin. “Our common past in a common state, which lasted for 75 years, is a commitment to the citizens of both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. No two countries in Europe or in the world have a better relationship than the Czechs and the Slovaks”, said Prime Minister in his speech. He added that neither Czechs nor Slovaks would have achieved independence alone. This was the result of their unity and cooperation. He also highlighted the role of Milan Rastislav Štefánik, who greatly helped push the idea of independence.

The ceremony in Martin was also attended by President Miloš Zeman, President of the Senate Milan Štěch, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies Radek Vondráček and Minister of Defence Lubomír Metnar.

Together with Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, Andrej Babiš tapped the cornerstone of a new paper-making machine of Mondi SCP in Ružomberok, whose paper manufacturing tradition dates back 138 years.

In Ružomberok, Prime Minister Babiš also attended the concert “Slovakia in the Heart”, featuring Gustav Brom Big Band, Peter Cmorík, Lúčnica, No Name and others.
