At the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the founding of independent Czechoslovakia on Saturday 27 October, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš first attended a solemn swearing in of new soldiers, policemen and professional firefighters on Hradčanské Square, then at the Kramář villa had lunch with statesmen invited to celebrate the anniversary and later delivered a speech on the occasion of the reopening of the National Museum building following its extensive reconstruction.

On the eve of the national holiday on 28 October, the traditional swearing in of new members of the Czech Army and this year also of new members of the Czech Police and the Fire Service took place on Hradčanské Square. A number of honoured guests, led by President Miloš Zeman and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, were in attendance.

The programme of Prime Minister Babiš for the 100th anniversary celebrations then continued at the Kramář villa, where the Czech Prime Minister received other special guests who arrived to join in the congratulations on this important day. Slovak Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini, Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister M. Pejčinovic Burič, Slovenia's Deputy Prime Minister M. Cerar, and Romanian Foreign Minister T. Melescanu all attended the formal lunch.

Afterwards, Prime Minister Babiš and his special guests transferred to the National Museum, where, together with President Miloš Zeman and other representatives of the Czech state and leading institutions, they followed the programme for the ceremonial opening of the reconstructed National Museum building.

On that occasion, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš delivered a speech in which he appreciated the rich, though complicated history of Czechoslovakia, and also pointed out the contemporary achievements of Czech companies, entrepreneurs, artists and sportsmen.

“Let us all ask ourselves what positive contribution we can make to our country and to our nation. Let us all, each and every one of us, ask what good thing we might do for the Czech Republic. And let us believe more in ourselves. We can do it! The Czech Republic is the most beautiful country in the world. I think that we all feel this. So let the whole world know!” the Czech Prime Minister said when concluding his speech, the full text of which can be found at http://www.vlada.cz/en/speech-by-prime-minister-andrej-babis-on-the-100th-anniversary-of-the-founding-of-czechoslovakia-169406/.
