Prime Minister in talks with his Armenian counterpart on economic cooperation

The Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met on Tuesday 2 June 2015 with the Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan. The two Prime Ministers and the Czech Minister for Industry and Trade Mr Jan Mládek discussed development of economic and investment cooperation between our two countries as well as relations in areas of education, culture and tourism.

In foreign policy area, the most important topic of talks were the currently ongoing negotiations on the new framework for cooperation between Armenia and the European Union and cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership.

After the Prime Ministers’ meeting the representatives of the Armenian province of Tavush and representatives of Hradec Kralove Region signed a Memorandum of Understanding concerning trade, economic, humanitarian and cultural cooperation.

Cooperation in investment area remains an important part of mutual relations for both countries. For Czech companies, this cooperation represents opportunities mainly in energy sector, in upgrades or construction of water power infrastructure and for supplies of farming equipment.

During his three-day visit to the Czech Republic the Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan opened, along with Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister for Industry and Trade Mládek, a business forum. The Armenian Prime Minister, accompanied by the Czech Minister of Culture Mr Daniel Herman, also visited the Lidice memorial, where he honoured children’s war victims.
