Prime Minister Sobotka held talks with the President of the Swiss Confederation, Burkhalter

On Wednesday 10 August 2014, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met the Federal President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, Didier Burkhalter. In addition to the meetings with the Prime Minister and his attendance of the OSCE Forum, the Federal President also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lubomír Zaorálek.

Together with the Prime Minister, they discussed the development of economic relations between the two countries and the importance for the Czech economy of the inflow of foreign investment from Switzerland. Switzerland is the sixth largest investor in the Czech Republic and contributes 4.4% of the total inflow of foreign investment to the Czech Republic. Prime Minister Sobotka also welcomed the contribution of the Swiss-Czech Cooperation Programme, which is Switzerland’s contribution to reducing economic and social disparities in the enlarged EU, promoting the development of Czech regions.

Other topics discussed included the situation in Ukraine, the options available to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which is currently chaired by Switzerland, contributions to resolving the situation and meetings between the EU and Switzerland regarding the institutional framework for their mutual relations.

Didier Burkhalter came to the Czech Republic to launch the 22nd Economic and Environmental Forum of the OSCE, which was held from September 10 – 12 in the Czernin Palace.
