Prime Minister Sobotka holds talks with Juncker, the President of the EC, on the EU-Turkey Summit and the Commission’s fight against tax evasion

The Prime Minister highlighted the need for close communication and cooperation with Turkey in order to put a stop to illegal economic migration. The EU-Turkey Action Plan must yield tangible results as soon as possible, particularly in terms of drastically curbing the migration flow making its way across Greece and into Europe, as well as tackling the networks of people smugglers.

This week, the College of Commissioners will discuss the fight against tax evasion and fraud. In the coming days, there should also be time for the Commission’s VAT Action Plan. This is an important issue for the Czech Republic. Prime Minister Sobotka informed Commission President Juncker that this was a matter of fundamental interest to the Czech Republic in particular because the Action Plan will allow those Member States involved to launch a pilot project for a general reverse charge applicable to domestic taxable supply in excess of EUR 10,000. This pilot project will be instrumental in combating carousel fraud with VAT.
