On Monday 12 January 2015, Czech prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka signed the book of condolence at the French embassy in symbolic remembrance of the victims of the terrorist attack that took place in Paris several days ago.

Prime minister Sobotka also met the French ambassador to the Czech Republic, Jean-Pierre Asvazadourian, today. The prime minister took this opportunity to express solidarity with France and the Czech government’s full support.

“We stand ready to strengthen cooperation between our countries and within the European Union as a whole in the fight against terrorism. This cooperation plainly needs to be intensified and we must clearly face down the danger together because violence and fanaticism know no boundaries,” said prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka.

Yesterday, he and the foreign minister Lubomír Zaorálek also attended the Unity Rally to pay tribute to the victims of the attacks and to express the resolve to defend democratic values such as freedom of speech, freedom of religion and the equality of all.
