Prime Minister Sobotka Met With Czech Businessmen And Serbian Prime Minister Vučić In Riga

Sunday, 6 November 2016, saw the continuation of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka’s visit to Latvia, where he attended the Summit of Central and Eastern European Countries and China. In the morning, he met with representatives of the business delegation, and later with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, followed by a visit to Bauska Castle, which is currently hosting an exhibition about Charles IV.

Meeting with businessmen
Prime Minister Sobotka is being accompanied on his trip to Latvia by a business delegation, the members of which attended the business forum held around the summit. Prime Minister Sobotka met with the businessmen on Sunday to discuss business opportunities within the region and countries participating in the summit.

The delegation represented about a dozen companies, operating among other in the sectors of engineering, wellness, international consignment and other fields.

Bilateral negotiations with the Serbian Prime Minister
Prime Minister Sobotka met with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić. They spoke among other about police cooperation, because since early November there have been 15 Czech police officers operating in Serbia, dispatched by the Czech Republic within assistance to the countries afflicted by the migrant crisis. The Czech police officers will remain in Serbia until the end of next January.

Prime Minister Sobotka also assured Prime Minister Vučić that the Czech Republic continues to support the efforts not only of Serbia, but also other countries of the western Balkan region, to become member states of the European Union.

Earlier on Saturday, the Prime Minister also met his counterparts from Latvia, Macedonia and Croatia.

Visit to Bauska Castle
During his visit to Bauska Castle near Riga, Prime Minister Sobotka viewed the exhibition “Charles IV, Bohemian King and Roman Emperor”, prepared by the Czech National Museum in cooperation with the Czech ambassador in Riga, the Town of Bauska and the Bauska Castle Museum on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of Charles IV’s birth. The exhibits present Charles IV as an emperor who was interested in the development of the Bohemian lands and the Prague metropolis, and also recalls cultural and spiritual contacts with the Baltics. Besides the National Museum, the items on display were also loaned by the St. Vitus Cathedral and Old Town Tower of Charles Bridge, for instance.
