On Thursday 22 December 2016, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka had an audience with Gary Koren, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel, at the Straka Academy. Prime Minister Sobotka thanked the outgoing Israeli ambassador for his two years of work and mutual cooperation, which made a major contribution to the further reinforcement of Czech-Israeli relations.

Ambassador Gary Koren has been a great champion of Czech-Israeli relations. He contributed to the preparation of two Czech-Israeli intergovernmental consultations in 2014 and 2016 in Jerusalem, the state visit of President Reuven Rivlin Prague in 2015, and several visits by departmental ministers.

Israel is among the Czech Republic’s most important trade partners. In 2015, it was the fifth most significant non-European export market for the Czech Republic, with reciprocal trade subsequently chalking up record values in 2016. The largest Czech-Israeli military cooperation project is the supply of new 3D radars for the Armed Forces of the Czech Republic, with approximately 30% of the contract handled by a Czech company.
