Prime Minister Topolánek meets European Commission Chairman Barroso

Premiér M. Topolánek seznamuje předsedu EK J. Barrosa s designovaným premiérem J. Fischerem, 22. dubna 2009
At the invitation of Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, Prime Minister designate Jan Fischer joined a working breakfast with Chairman of the European Commission José Barroso.

The main topics of the early morning meeting at the Kramář villa were upcoming events for the Czech Presidency. For example, the Czech Republic is still to handle a summit meeting on employment at the beginning of May, EU-Russia, EU-China and EU–South Korea ternary summits as well as the June session of the Council of Europe.

Prime Minister Topolánek also updated Chairman Barroso on the current political situation and introduced him to Prime Minister designate Jan Fischer. At the meeting Barroso said that he continues to support the Czech Presidency and hopes that the current political situation will not significant affect the Czech Republic's position at the head of Europe and that the summer bridging government will handle all its assignments successfully.

The main reason for EC Chairman Barroso's visit to Prague is today's meeting in Prague of Lisbon coordinators.
