On the night of Tuesday 2 April to Wednesday 3 April 2019, Kramář’s villa was lit up in blue. The Office of the Government of the Czech Republic thus joined the nationwide campaign to support people with autism spectrum disorder “Czech Republic in Blue Light”.

This year’s motto of the project, which is organized by the organisation Hope for Autism, is “The Path to Understanding”. In addition to light symbolism, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš also supported the event with his patronage.

“I like that the project Czech Republic in Blue Light shows how important it is to talk about problems. There are around 250,000 people with some form of autism in the Czech Republic, and they can live better only because we have a better awareness of autism. Thanks to this campaign I have learned new things about autism”, added Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.

In 2007, UN members unanimously agreed to announce the World Day of Understanding Autism on the second day of April. The aim is to raise public awareness of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and, above all, to emphasize the need to improve the lives of people with autism so that they can lead a meaningful and dignified life. Therefore, since 2008, April 2 is among the seven internationally recognized UN Health Days.

Many important institutions will light up on this occasion in blue colours. Blue colour symbolizes communication and self-expression, that is, the abilities that are often the most problematic for autistic people.
