On Friday 11 November 2016 the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met at the Czech Office of the Government with the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Urban Ahlin. They discussed in particular European issues, inter alia the renewal of the social and economic convergence within the European Union and the development of a digital single market. Both statesmen also appraised the Czech-Swedish inter-parliamentary cooperation and the cooperation of Sweden with the Visegrad Group.

The Czech Republic has long-established and excellent relations with Sweden and both countries have an interest in their ongoing development. Cooperation takes place in particular in the field of trade and investment and defence and security with the Czech Republic and Sweden also sharing many common stances within the European Union. There is a continued effort to further bilateral relations also in the wider format of meeting of the Nordic, Visegrad and Baltic countries.

"I am pleased to note that the Czech Republic-Swedish relations develop successfully in all areas and in the future we plan to deepen these relations even more. I am very pleased that we confirmed the excellent levels and willingness to further deepen our mutual relations with Prime Minister Löfven last week at my business visit to Sweden where we agreed on the principles that we will continue to implement,” said Prime Minister, Bohuslav Sobotka  after the meeting.

An important element of bilateral relations is cooperation on inter-parliamentary level. In the Swedish Parliament there is a Swedish-Czech Friendship grouping; in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic operates a Group of Cooperation Czech Republic- Nordic States.
