The Prime Minister has presented the resignation of the government to the President of the Republic

Mirek Topolánek wants a quick solution and early elections as the way out of the stalemate.

President of the Republic Václav Klaus has accepted the resignation of the government from Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek. After the official acceptance there was a short consultation between the two representatives, after which they made their speeches.

On Friday 27 March the President of the Republic will meet the representatives of the other parties – the chairman of the Christian Democrats, Jiří Čunek, and the chairman of the Social Democrats, Jiří Paroubek. Václav Klaus outlined three requirements for the resolution of the situation: a quick solution, not allowing no solution to be found and political consensus in the Chamber of Deputies.

In answer to the words and the opinion of the President Václav Klaus, Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek declared that he is also in favour of a quick solution to the situation. The Prime Minister also stated that such a government cannot have a full mandate and, in addition, thinks that he sees: “the only possible solution to this long-standing stalemate being early elections”.
