On Thursday 2 July 2015, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met Prime Minister Milo Đukanović of Montenegro at the Straka Academy. Their talks centred on mutual cooperation and the development of trade relations. At their Thursday meeting, Prime Ministers Sobotka and Đukanović deliberated opportunities to move forward with the countries’ already very good trade relations. Over the past five years, trade turnover between the two countries has tripled. In 2014, this turnover amounted to CZK 1.24 billion. The prime ministers also emphasised the importance by attending a seminar on trade and investment opportunities for Czech companies in Montenegro.

Other topics of their meeting were energy and tourism. Montenegro is visited annually by tens of thousands of Czech tourists, making a significant contribution to trade. As for international issues, Prime Minister Sobotka and his counterpart primarily discussed Montenegro’s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures. The Czech Republic has long championed EU enlargement to include the Western Balkans, which it sees as a way to promote stability, prosperity and the consolidation of democracy in this region.
