The Prime Minister is to deal with the internal affairs of the EU, the President will address external issues

Prime Minister Petr Nečas, together with the Foreign Minister and the President, have agreed on the coordination of foreign policy activities.

“Meetings that will primarily address summits and European Council meetings concerning the European Union’s external relations – relations between the EU and countries and territories outside the European Union itself – will be attended by the President”, explained Prime Minister Petr Nečas after a meeting at Prague Castle.

“On occasions where the internal affairs of the EU, or economic issues, will be discussed, the Prime Minister will mainly be present,” added the Prime Minister.
The President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also agreed on a basic format, which will involve the Lisbon NATO summit. All three will be present on this occasion, as part of a joint delegation led by the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister attending the meetings.


“We also agreed on a system of joint consultation, which will also involve the appointment of ambassadors, and meetings of this kind will continue to be held in the future,” Petr Nečas told journalists.
