16. 1.: Premier To Honour the Memory of Jan Palach

At 9:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009, Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek will honour the memory of the Czech student Jan Palach by laying flowers at Palach´s commemorative plaque. Jan Palach, a student of Prague’s Faculty of Philosophy, immolated himself forty years ago in protest of the occupation of former Czechoslovakia by the Soviet-led Warsaw Treaty armies.
