February 25, 2008: Premier to Leave for a Working Visit to the US Today

A Czech Government delegation, led by Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, today leaves for a working visit to the United States. Between February 26 and 28, 2008, the Czech Premier and members of his delegation will hold a number of meetings and bilateral negotiations in Washington with officials of the US political and business circles, representatives of the Czech expatriate community, and foreign dissidents.

The program of the first day of the visit, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, includes, among other engagements, the following:

 talks with the US Secretary of Trade Carlos Gutierrez (primarily on economic matters and the current situation in Cuba);

 talks with the US Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff;

 signing of a “Memorandum of Understanding“;

 laying flowers at the Monument to the Victims of Communism and meeting with officials of the Foundation for the Monument to the Victims of Communism, whose member is also Mrs. Jana Kánská, daughter of Milada Horková;

 a speech delivered in the Heritage Foundation (the Czech Prime Minister will present a brief speech on the subject “The Value of Transatlantic Partnership in the 21st Century);

 a meeting with Cuban, Burmese and Belarusian dissidents.
