Vice Chairman of the European Commission To Visit the Czech Republic

Franco Frattini, Vice Chairman of the European Commission responsible for justice, freedom and security, will be visiting the Czech Republic between June 13 and 15, 2007. His visit links up to the just concluded European Council for justice and internal affairs.

During his stay in Prague Franco Frattini will have talks with Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, Deputy Prime Minister for European Affairs Alexandr Vondra, Interior Minister Ivan Langer, Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, and Justice Minister Jiøí Pospíšil. He will also meet President of the Constitutional Court Pavel Rychetský, and deputies of both chambers of the Parliament of the Czech Republic.

Under discussion will be the Czech Republic’s preparations for its entry into the Schengen space, issues of international security in the context of the fight against terrorism, joint visa and migration policy, and the institutional reform of the European Union. Vice Chairman Frattini will also discuss the prospects of the further development of co-operation in the civil law and criminal law fields, preparations for the European Union’s long-term priorities in the sphere of justice, security and internal affairs, and - last but not least - the Czech Republic’s preparations for its presidency of the European Council.
